I had this nice old lady who had troubles sleeping. It was her son who called me for help. During the pretalk, she had some difficulty expressing her anxiety, fearing that her children nor I would not understand. As she gets more comfortable, she was able to tell me her sensitivity to neighbor noise (which is common for older folks), as well as her worries about safety in her area.

Insomnia may have underlying medical reasons. It can also be disturbed sleep patterns such as night terrors, sleep paralysis (when you cannot move after a disrupted dream), having frequent nightmares, bed wetting, etc. As such, you will need to consult your GP to rule out medical concerns.
Do you know that 3 days of disomnia (not sleeping at all) is a sure ticket to the hospital? I was able to survive 5 days straight...
No matter what keeps you awake night after night, there is only one thing that separates insomniacs to those who sleep well:
Insomniacs EXPECT that they won't be able to sleep. Since they do, they entertain racing thoughts to keep them from getting bored.
Those who sleep normally just go to sleep! It's like: "It's time to sleep, bahala na kayong lahat jan."
Here is simple exercise that might help you get some nice sleep tonight:
1. What keeps you awake? How does it make you feel? When you see images, distort it: put it in black and white, shrink the image...blur it...shrink it more to nothingness. How do you feel now?
2. Are you disturbed by the outside noise? Imagine holding a remote control. Minimize the sound volume, minimize more... more and more to mute. How do you feel now?
3. Set a regular time to sleep. When it's 9PM tell to yourself: It's time to sleep, bahala na kayo lahat jan.

5. Say a little prayer of gratitude as your gateway to sleep.
6. Good night!
